The Launch of NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) was introduced with the main objective of providing all Australians who acquire a permanent disability that substantially impacts their day to day life prior to age 65 access to reasonable and necessary supports to live an ordinary life.

The NDIS began on July 1st 2013 with trial sites in Tasmania for people aged 15-24, South Australia for children aged under 14, the Barwon area of Victoria and the Hunter area in NSW for people up to 65 years of age. The trials ended July 2016 when the full scheme began rolling out across Australia.

The Scheme was then rolled out to:
• NSW and SA on the 1st of July 2018
• ACT, NT, QLD, and VIC from 1st July 2019
• WA from 1st December 2020

Becoming a New NDIS Provider

The following steps also include renewing your registration as NDIS Providers in Australia.

Step One

To become a new NDIS provider or renew your registration as an NDIS Service Provider you will need to submit an online application through the NDIS My Place Portal.

Step Two

Once this has been completed you will receive an Initial Scope of NDIS Audit which will outline your requirements for audit against the NDIS Practice Standards.

Extra Support

The NDIS Commission has also developed a Provider Information Pack to ensure NDIS providers have access to key information about services and supports to NDIS participants.
